Religious Education
Intent
At Foresters through the teaching of Religious Education we intend to give children the knowledge and skills to have a good understanding of empathy and respect of other’s faiths, beliefs and values. We aim for the children to gain knowledge about the 5 main religions and to not only learn facts and knowledge about them but to also gain understanding of how to learn about other religions, giving them skills to become great learners of faith and values. We aim for our children to be able to reflect, ask questions and build up an awareness of their own values and beliefs and be confident to share these.
Implementation
Religious Education at Foresters is timetabled and taught as a 60 minute lesson each week for KS1 and KS2. Our pupils begin their RE journey throughout their time in EYFS as they will cover 3 topics: 'Growing Together’, ‘Festivals and Celebrations’ and ‘Caring and Taking Care’. This provides a base on which to build the KS1 and KS2 RE curriculum.
In accordance with the Sutton SACRE our pupils learn about 5 main religions that are covered within KS1 and KS2 including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and the addition of either Sikhism or Buddhism in Year 6.
